Way back in May 1969 I was a brand new in country 2nd Lieutenant awaiting my first combat assignment at Bein Hoa. I was watching the Chinooks being sling loaded. Back then the soldier hooking the load stood on top of it. On a lark I asked the trooper if I could do the next load. " No Problem, L.T." I darn near got squashed as the Chinook dropped about a foot as I reached up to hook the load. Once was enough for me!
