Just think, that majestic tree was 240 years old when the Declaration of Independence was signed. How many more historical events did this giant of the forest witness? It was a seedling around the year 1500. Standing tall and strong for five centuries, withstanding weather, fire, war and disasters, just to be destroyed in the name of wood, paper and toothpicks. What a shame.Watching this is truely heartbreaking. There is nothing good about felling trees that are hundreds of years old.
