Three Bodies Recovered After Lillooet Mudslide; One Person Still Missing

The bodies of three men have been recovered from the site of a devastating mudslide near Lillooet, British Columbia, while a fourth man remains missing, according to an update from the RCMP.

In a statement released Saturday, B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe confirmed that the first male victim was located and recovered on Wednesday.

Search and recovery teams then discovered the bodies of two more men on Thursday as operations continued in the challenging terrain.

Efforts to locate the fourth missing individual resumed on Friday but were ultimately unsuccessful. Search teams are continuing their work, facing difficult conditions in the aftermath of the landslide.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, the body of a woman was also recovered from the same site.

She was the first confirmed fatality linked to the widespread flooding and landslides that have struck southern British Columbia, following an episode of intense and prolonged rainfall over the previous weekend.

The mudslide is one of several natural disasters to hit the province recently, as communities across southern B.C. grapple with the aftermath of extreme weather conditions, including washed-out roads, displaced residents, and ongoing search and recovery efforts.

Authorities continue to urge caution and preparedness as the region remains vulnerable to further weather-related events.
