Last night we found this in our bed and my husband and I are freaking out.

There are ticks. Most people get the creeps just thinking about them. And for a good reason! Not only do these tiny bugs bother you and get in your way, but they can also spread dangerous diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease. So, if you find a tick in your home, you should get rid of it right away.

Find the issue and separate it.
The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of tick it is. It might be a dog tick, a brown dog tick, or a black-legged tick. As soon as you know what kind of tick it is, you should take the right steps to stop it from spreading. Your kids and pets should stay away from the area until the tick is gone.

Steps to protect
Cover your skin with gloves and long-sleeved clothes to keep ticks away. This will make it less likely for a tick to attach itself to you.

Clean very well
Ticks can hide in your clothes, your bed, and even the cracks and holes in your house. Because of this, it is important to clean really well anything that the tick has touched. If there are ticks on your clothes or bedding, wash them on high heat to get rid of them. Pay extra attention to cracks and edges when you vacuum the affected area.

Get rid of ticks
Don’t freak out if you find a tick on your skin. Get as close to the skin’s surface as you can with fine-tipped tweezers to grab the tick. Make sure not to twist or jerk as you slowly and steadily pull yourself up. This will stop the tick’s head from coming off and staying in your skin. Once the tick is out of the area, clean it with soapy water or alcohol. The tick can be gotten rid of by putting it in alcohol or flushing it down the toilet.

Watch how you bite.
You should keep an eye on both the person who was bitten and any bite sites you find. Keep an eye out for signs like a rash, fever, or aches and pains in your muscles. If you have any strange symptoms or if the bite area gets infected, you should see a doctor right away.
